CAC & PTA

We have an exciting school year ahead, and we want you to be an integral part of it! Join us for two important opportunities this week at our Campus Advisory Council meeting, followed by our PTA meeting. Join PTA today!

Here's why you shouldn't miss it:

  • Shape Our Campus: Your input helps craft an exceptional experience for our students.
  • Bring Big Ideas to Life: Together, we can accomplish amazing things.
  • Convenient Location: Both meetings are held right here on campus, back-to-back.

Details:

  • When: This Tuesday at 3:30 PM, immediately after dismissal.
  • Kid-Friendly: Children are welcome to enjoy the back lawn while we meet.

Your participation makes a significant difference. Let's make this year truly special for our students. See you there!

Dismissal: Walkers

At Norman-Sims, we're constantly learning and improving. We want to address the confusion surrounding our new dismissal procedures for walkers. To prioritize safety, we've decided to make a change: all walkers will now exit from the front of the building. Thank you for your understanding and commitment to keeping our school community safe.

Dismissal: Early Pick-Ups

To prepare for a smooth campus dismissal, we stop early dismissal at 2:45 pm. We will no longer follow through with phone calls notifying the front office to “prepare students for early pick-up.” To maximize teaching and learning, students will only be called to the front office once an authorized person is physically in the office to pick up.

EVENT: Back To School Night

We're excited about our upcoming Back to School Night event and hope to see everyone there! To make this evening as informative as possible, we kindly request that it be an adults-only occasion. While not mandatory, this will help our teachers to share classroom details more effectively.

Our goal is to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of classroom and grade-level expectations. If you need to bring your child, we recommend having a second adult with you so that kids can enjoy some outdoor play on the back lawn while you engage in this valuable event. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

What are we learning?

  • All of our K-3rd grade classes are beginning their phonics program: Really Great Reading. It is our goal to make sure all students are reading on grade level.
  • All grade levels are expected to practice writing daily. Please encourage writing (including handwriting) at home with your child. For our younger ones, start by making sure they know how to write their name.
  • MAP Growth Testing begins this week. This is done for reading and math. For our students in our bilingual program, they also take a Spanish-specific reading test. This test monitors students throughout the year to track their growth. Visit NWEA MAP Growth’s website.
