  • Support Our School: Your membership is a symbol of your support for the work we’re doing at Norman-Sims Elementary.
  • Flexible Involvement: Signing up doesn’t mean you have to attend every meeting. We understand that everyone has busy schedules.
  • Monthly Meetings: Meetings are held once a month, providing you with several opportunities to get involved and make a difference on our campus.

Our PTA’s Impact:

  • Resources for Students: The PTA has brought in school supplies, clothing, and other essential items for our students.
  • Enriching Experiences: Members volunteer their time to support our students! Some of the student experiences include dance, cheer, and various events throughout the school year. PTA also helps to ensure the culture and climate at Norman-Sims stays high by showing love and appreciation to our Trailblazing staff throughout the year. 
  • Community Events: PTA is a recognizable force at every campus event. Plus, events like Fall Fest Trunk or Treat is 100% run by the PTA, creating memorable experiences for our students and families.

Meet Our Executive Board!

President: Alkeisha Black

Hello, I am Alkeisha Black. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Education (EC-6) with a minor in Math. My passion lies in preparing the youth for the future, Whether through teaching or community work. I love crafting and decorating, treasure family time, and find solace at home. My favorite superheroes are Shuri, for her brilliance and leadership, and Cataleya Restrepo from Colombiana, for her unmatched devotion to her family.

Vice President: Renee' Sanders

My name is Renee' Sanders, a Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse Supervisor. I'm also the proud parent of an amazing 4th grader here at Norman-Sims. I love spending time with my family and dogs, dining out, traveling, staying fit, dancing, and binge-watching documentaries.lam an avid sports fan, and my favorite color is purple. My favorite superhero isn't a cape-wearing character or a cartoon; it's my mom.

Secretary: Lindsay Caughey

Hello, I am Lindsay Caughey. I'm a trained school psychologist and currently work as a clinical manager. My son will be starting 3rd grade this year. I love walking him to school with our dogs, reading, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends. My favorite superhero is Wonder Woman. I'm excited to be the PTA Secretary this year!

Treasurer: Charles DeShay III

I am a Systems Analyst and Applications Developer with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, bringing 16 years of experience in union representation and legislation. I earned my B.S. in Biology from Huston-Tillotson University and am currently pursuing an M.S. in Information Technology at Purdue University. I have a passion for gardening, horses, cooking, engineering, and hands-on projects.

My family has deep roots in East Austin and a strong tradition of community activism. My superhero is my late grandfather, Cliffton Townsend.

Historian: Robbie Ely

My name is Robbie Ely, and I've been working as a CPA with Austin nonprofits since 2008. Two years ago, I transitioned to consulting, which has given me the flexibility to engage in community activities and support my son Anton's education.

My wife Sonia, Anton, and I live in East Austin, where we are deeply invested in our neighborhood and our neighbors. I love staying active, learning new things, and meeting new people.

Parliamentarian: Sharon Roper

My name is Sharon Roper, and I'm proud to be the parent of a 4th grader at Norman-Sims. With over 15 years of experience in the medical field, I've dedicated much of my professional life to helping others. Outside of work, I cherish spending time with my family, particularly my grandchildren, who bring immense joy to my life. My commitment to our community runs deep, and I am passionate about contributing to its growth and success.
