We offer a wide range of programming at Norman and Sims. Our academic programming includes:
Early Childhood Programs
Pre-K 3/ Head Start for children as young as three and a bilingual Pre-K for four-year-olds.
Late Exit Bilingual Program.
Late-exit bilingual programs, also called 'maintenance bilingual programs' provide a balanced combination of academic instruction in students' first language and in English. English language learners' first language serves as the foundation for development of English language skills and later, academic knowledge in both languages. The ultimate goal is transition to mainstream classrooms where students continue their education with native English speakers.
Special Education Programs
Primary Placement for Children with Disabilities (PPCD), Resource, Speech, and SCORES.
Social Communication Resources and Services, or SCORES, is an instructional resource and service that supports students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and/or other social communication disorders who demonstrate impairment in social, communicative, and behavioral functioning.
Dyslexia Intervention: Take Flight Program
Take Flight addresses the five components of effective reading instruction—Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, Reading and Comprehension—identified by the National Reading Panel’s research, and is a comprehensive Tier III intervention for students with dyslexia.
Peer Assistance Leadership and Service (PALS)
Our fourth- and fifth-grade scholars learn to mentor and assist our kindergarten students daily, both in and outside the classroom.
